Solutions for Jaw Disorders Caused by Teeth Grinding

Do you grind your teeth at night? People who do and don’t get it treated can end up with jaw disorders as grinding affects your teeth, gums, and jaw bone.

A common issue that could arise from teeth grinding is TMD TMJ, also known as a temporomandibular joint disorder. This joint is the one that connects your lower jaw to your skull. Its role is to open the jaw for you can chew and talk. People with TMD will hear a clicking or popping sound when they open their mouths. They might also get a pain in their neck and headaches.

See your Houston dentist for solutions to help you with your TMD TMJ. These could range from pure muscle relaxants and aspirin to biofeedback. Your dentist might also recommend wearing a small retainer made of plastic at night while you sleep to help prevent you from grinding.

Patients with mild TMD TMJ cases sometimes have pain or some discomfort in their jaw muscles. But some more involved examples include dislocated jaws or joints that no longer line up. An extreme form of TMD TMJ can occur if the patient gets arthritis in their jaw joint.
