Dental cone beam computerized tomography (ct scan) is used to provide an in-depth image, providing dentists with far greater detail than a regular dental x-ray. It can show your teeth, nerves, and bones in just a single scan, producing a detailed 3-D image. We don’t routinely use cone beam CT scans. Sometimes we do need to see much more information, and this advanced technology is ideal under these circumstances.

When Might I Need a Cone Beam CT Scan?

One everyday use is when planning dental implant surgery. A cone-beam CT scan is invaluable in enabling the dentists to map the insertion of each implant accurately.

Further, The cone-beam CT helps to avoid things like nerves and blood vessels while ensuring the result looks great and will give you a new tooth that functions usually.

This machine has a lot of other uses as well. We might suggest you have a scan if you have severely impacted teeth, or when diagnosing temporomandibular joint disorder (TMD). It’s also used for planning reconstructive surgery, for detecting any cysts or tumors and just for evaluating your jaw and teeth.

What Happens During a Kind Beam CT Scan?

You’ll be asked to remove anything metal that might interfere with the imaging equipment. This includes any jewelry, glasses and hearing aids, as well as any removable dental appliances that contain metal. The actual scan is quick and non-invasive and very comfortable.
The cone beam scans an image the correct area of your head. After this you need to remain very still while the arms of the machine rotate around your head, completing a full 360°. It will take between 20 and 40 seconds, and that’s it!

What Happens Next?

Afterward, your dentist may discuss any findings with you directly, or if necessary, sent to another dentist for a second opinion. These images provide the dentist with a clear picture of the implant process, making the whole procedure smooth and trouble-free for you.

What Are the Advantages of a Cone Beam CT Scan?

The Cone-Beam CT scan creates high-quality 3-Dimages so your dentist can view your jaw from a variety of different angles. With this tool, your evaluation will proceed quickly and effectively and helps the dentist plan out your dental treatments.

The cone-beam CT scanner enables our dentists to offer patients a much more comprehensive range of treatments all under one roof.
